Genesis has confirmed that the production flagship crossover GV90 will feature one of the most striking features of the Neolun concept – rear doors that open against the direction of travel. Today, such a solution is extremely rare and is considered a hallmark of Rolls-Royce cars.

The preservation of this feature was announced by Peter Kronschnabl, head of Genesis Europe. According to him, these doors will be one of the key distinguishing features of the brand's new flagship.

So-called coach doors were popular in the first half of the last century, but today they have almost disappeared from mass automotive production. Modern safety requirements provide for the presence of a central body pillar, so the design differs from classic cars of the 1930s. In addition to Rolls-Royce, a similar scheme is used by the Ferrari Purosangue, and it was previously used by the limited edition Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition.

However, GV90 prototypes previously spotted during testing were equipped with conventional rear doors. This may mean that the unusual design will be an option for certain trim levels or a special version of the model.

The premiere of the Genesis GV90 has been postponed several times. Engineers needed additional time to refine the software for automated control systems. Now, Genesis management has confirmed that the full presentation of the electric crossover will take place in August.

The GV90 is expected to be the brand's most luxurious electric vehicle. The model will be built on a common platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9, but Genesis will offer more premium trim materials, original design, and an expanded set of technologies.
