China has announced the largest car recall campaign in the country's history. The reason is hidden electronic door handles, which, after a serious accident and power failure, can be difficult to locate and use.

Tesla accounts for 2.98 million vehicles. The list includes Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X, manufactured in China or imported into the country. The fix will include a software update and the installation of warning labels for mechanical emergency openers.
The problem is not limited to Tesla. Xiaomi, Leapmotor, XPeng, Zeekr, Geely, and other manufacturers are also included in the campaign. In total, the regulator requires the potential risk to be eliminated in approximately 4.3 million cars.
It is particularly telling that China is already preparing to ban fully hidden door handles for new cars starting in 2027. This means it's not about an isolated defect in a specific model, but a revision of the design itself, which Tesla made popular among modern electric vehicles.
For the owner, the significance of the problem is maximally practical: after a severe accident, rescuers and passengers need to quickly understand how to open the door without power. If the mechanical mechanism is hidden and has no obvious designation, precious seconds can be lost.
