BMW has unveiled the M3 40 Years Edition, dedicated to four decades of the M3. The company will release only 40 cars — 20 sedans and 20 Touring wagons. All cars are intended exclusively for the Chinese market.

The anniversary M3s are built on the top-tier Competition xDrive version. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter inline-six twin-turbo engine producing around 530 hp, with all-wheel drive.
The sedan is painted in Laguna Seca Blue — the iconic color of the E46 M3 — and features a carbon fiber roof. The wagon received an unusual Wildberry shade. Both cars are equipped with bronze 826M wheels, darkened optics, and special design elements with the 40 Jahre M3 designation.
The M Driver's Package increases the sedan's top speed to approximately 290 km/h, and the Touring's to 280 km/h. The cost of the cars is equivalent to approximately 132–136 thousand euros.
The choice of China looks particularly telling. The M3 appeared in the mid-1980s as a European sports model, closely associated with BMW motorsport. But now, the rarest anniversary version has gone to a market that is becoming increasingly important for BMW.
Moreover, the limited edition makes the situation even more interesting: European buyers will not be able to simply order such a car from a local dealer. For collectors, the M3 40 Years Edition already looks like a potentially very desirable specimen.
