Geely is considering a debut in the top class of the FIA WEC in the 2027 season. According to AutoNext and DailySportscar, the Chinese group is discussing the acquisition of assets from Alpine's racing program, which is set to leave the championship after the 2026 season.

The most interesting option is not to build its own Hypercar from scratch, but to use the Alpine A424 LMDh as a base. It is assumed that the prototype will receive new front and rear bodywork, after which it will be re-homologated under a yet-to-be-announced Geely brand. The existing turbocharged V6 may be retained.

The operational side of the project will presumably continue to be handled by the French company Signatech, which currently services the Alpine program. This will allow Geely to retain an already established racing infrastructure and an experienced team instead of spending years building its own project.

For Geely, this would be a fast track directly into the top category of the World Endurance Championship and the "24 Hours of Le Mans." However, it is important not to overestimate the news yet: negotiations are not complete, there is no official announcement of Geely's participation in WEC, and the brand of the future car remains unknown.

If the deal goes through, the Chinese manufacturer will effectively buy not only the car but also ready-made racing expertise. And this could prove much more efficient than developing its own Hypercar from scratch.
