Chinese company Dreame has decided to liquidate its automotive division, Starry Sky. The project was launched in August 2025, and at its peak, it employed almost 1,000 people. Now, the staff has been reduced to a few dozen employees who are engaged in closing down companies and settling accounts with suppliers.

Just a few months ago, Dreame promised to enter the market with luxury electric vehicles in 2027. The main sensation was the Nebula Next 01 Jet Edition — the so-called Rocket Car. The manufacturer claimed 0–100 km/h acceleration in 0.9 seconds, a battery with an energy density of over 450 Wh/kg, a range of over 550 km, and rocket booster thrust up to 100 kN.

Now it turns out that everything was much more complicated with the demonstration car. Former employees told China Economy that the prototype shown did not have a full-fledged chassis and was moved remotely. According to them, the car was purchased from an exhibition model manufacturer and modified specifically for presentations. These claims are not an independent technical conclusion, but they explain well why the project disappeared so quickly.

At the same time, Dreame was indeed involved in battery technologies. In March, the company showed a solid-state battery with 60 Ah cells and announced the start of small-scale deliveries in 2026 and mass production in 2027. But this does not mean that the claimed energy density of 450 Wh/kg for the Rocket Car was achieved in a production automotive battery.

For the automotive market, Dreame's story is indicative. Making an impressive prototype is much easier than creating an automotive platform, setting up production, certifying the car, and providing service. The company is now returning to four areas: smart home, outdoor equipment, intelligent mobility, and robots.
