A Ferrari patent, published in the USA, describes an active rear end of a car capable of changing aerodynamics depending on the driving mode. The images show a mid-engine hypercar with a massive diffuser and a retractable rear wing.

The most unusual detail is the light panel under the main wing. At high speed, it can shift backward, effectively increasing the working area of the aerodynamic element. During braking, the structure changes position to add vertical load and improve the car's stability.
Ferrari is considering a similar idea for the Purosangue. In the patent illustrations, the taillights can pivot downwards, directing airflow to a small spoiler at the rear. This shows that the technology is potentially intended not only for extreme hypercars.
The main value of the solution is the ability to achieve greater downforce without a permanently installed huge wing. In normal mode, the body remains visually clean, and at high speed, the car itself changes shape where necessary.
However, a patent does not mean that such a system will appear on a production Ferrari. The company regularly protects promising engineering solutions, and between patent and production, questions of cost, reliability, and complexity of the design remain.
