The new Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung is based on the CLE 53, but little remains of the original car. Instead of a 3.0-liter inline-six, it features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 M177 EVO with 646 hp and 850 Nm. The engine received a flat crankshaft, which reduces rotating masses and improves throttle response.

Another fundamental change is the abandonment of all-wheel drive. All traction is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 9-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and an electronic limited-slip differential. The coupe accelerates to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 310 km/h.

To compensate for the heavier V8, engineers removed about 170 kg. The body received wide carbon fiber elements, lightweight glazing, and a redesigned interior without rear seats and a significant portion of sound insulation. As a result, the mass is about 1895 kg.

The chassis is also track-oriented: adjustable coilovers, carbon-ceramic brakes, 20-inch forged wheels, and an aerodynamic kit that generates over 250 kg of downforce at top speed. The front diffuser can be switched between road and race positions.

The CLE 646 will be the second model in the exclusive Mythos series. Mercedes-AMG will hand-assemble only 30 units, and all cars were sold out even before the public premiere.
