Volkswagen has expanded the capabilities of its IQ.DRIVE suite for 2027 models. The updates apply to models on the MQB Evo and MEB platforms, including the Atlas, Golf, Tiguan, and the electric ID. Buzz. IQ.DRIVE already integrates adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and Emergency Assist.

Now, Travel Assist allows for a lane change request with a light tap of the turn signal stalk. At speeds above 45 mph (72 km/h), radars check the adjacent lane. If it's occupied, the vehicle can wait up to 12 seconds, then perform the maneuver when a clear space appears.

Even more significant is the new Emergency Assist Plus feature. If the system detects a lack of driver response, it first issues audible and visual warnings, briefly brakes, tightens seatbelts, and activates the hazard lights. If there's still no response, the vehicle can autonomously steer towards the right shoulder and stop. After stopping, hazard lights, interior lighting, and an emergency call are activated.

For some models, the rear camera system has also been improved: when reversing, it can detect pedestrians and automatically brake before a collision. And predictive cruise control has gained new operating scenarios for highway exits.

Important: IQ.DRIVE remains a driver assistance system, not autonomous driving. Volkswagen explicitly states that the driver is responsible for controlling the vehicle and monitoring road conditions.
