The extension is particularly interesting given the team's preparation for the next technical cycle. In 2027, Formula 1 will see further regulation changes, and Aston Martin is already working on a new car. The team expects to leverage Alonso's experience in the development and setup of the car.

However, the 2026 season has been challenging for Aston Martin: after 15 rounds, the team has only scored three points, all earned by Alonso. Nevertheless, the driver decided to continue his collaboration with the team beyond the current season.

Now, the Spaniard will be on the grid at least until the end of the 2027 season. By then, he will be 46 years old, making his continued career one of the most notable examples of longevity among active Formula 1 drivers.
