Mazda decided not to destroy what works, but to maximize the potential of its most popular crossover. Before us is the new generation Mazda CX-5 - a car that has retained its beloved qualities, but has received relevant technologies and an updated philosophy. In-house hybrid drive, new interior, increased dimensions and generous equipment - strong arguments to take a fresh look at the model.
Let's figure out why the Japanese bet on careful evolution instead of a loud revolution.
Design: Recognizability Without Boredom
Mazda remains true to the Kodo style - the same smooth shapes, emphasized dynamics and not a drop of unnecessary pretentiousness. The look has become stricter and more monumental: the body has increased in size, which is immediately noticeable visually.
Updated parameters: wheelbase - 2815 mm (+115 mm), length - 4690 mm (+140 mm), width - 1860 mm (+20 mm), height - 1695 mm (slight increase).
This increase is not just for show: the fit has improved, space has been added in the second row, and the trunk has become more spacious and convenient in shape.
At the front, the signature Wing grille attracts attention with sharper contours and multi-layered optics, giving the car a premium look. At the rear - new narrow lights and a large MAZDA inscription. The whole image says: confidence without unnecessary pathos.
Interior: Digitalization Without Compromises
It is inside that the most noticeable leap has occurred. Now the CX-5 is literally built around technology. The control center is a huge 15.6-inch touch screen - the largest in the brand. It runs the Google Built-In ecosystem, which means: assistant, navigation, services - everything is familiar and convenient. Even the climate can be controlled by voice.
Mazda has taken a serious step: the traditional knobs and multimedia controller have disappeared. Control has been transferred to the touch plane and buttons on the steering wheel with tactile feedback.
To this are added:
- panoramic roof
- 7-mode LED backlight
- improved quality of materials
- higher noise insulation
The interior has become not just modern - it feels a class above.
Technology: In-house Skyactiv-Z Hybrid
The main innovation is the new Mazda Skyactiv-Z hybrid power plant. Unlike the CX-50 Hybrid, which uses Toyota architecture, this is a completely Mazda development. The combination of a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor should provide smooth acceleration and high efficiency.
Detailed specifications are still kept secret, but the emphasis is obvious:
- less consumption
- more natural dynamics
- priority of comfort and handling
The base engine remains familiar - 2.5 with 187 hp, time-tested. And one more important point: now only i-ACTIV all-wheel drive, front-wheel drive is a thing of the past - a course towards premium.
The gearbox is also traditional: 6-speed automatic. Mazda is confident that a reliable design is more valuable than extra gears.
Safety: New Generation Electronic Shield
The CX-5 is equipped with updated driver assistants. The confirmed set includes:
- adaptive cruise control
- improved lane keeping and automatic braking systems
- intelligent high beam
The surround view cameras and sensors have become more modern: this is especially noticeable when detecting pedestrians and cyclists at night.
Russia: Hope for an Official Return
European sales will start before the end of 2025. The model is still imported into Russia through parallel imports, but the situation may change. In 2025, Mazda has already resumed deliveries with a guarantee - so far only pre-styling versions from China. This may be preparation for a full return of the brand in 2026 - including the new CX-5.
The new Mazda CX-5 is a car in which every change is made consciously, it is not a race for hype - it is a confident, balanced step forward, in the style of Mazda.
