In the first eight months of 2025, Russia imported 131.5 thousand used cars from Japan, 10% less than in the same period of 2024. Despite the decline, Japan retains its status as a key supplier of such cars. Unlike imports from China and South Korea, older cars prevail here: about 30% of the cars are over 10 years old, and a third (33%) are in the range of 6 to 10 years.
Japanese brands hold the lead. Toyota holds 33.7% of the import market, Honda - 30.5%. Next are Suzuki, Subaru, Nissan, and Mazda. European models are rare, but German ones are noticeable: Volkswagen with a share of 3.3% and Mercedes-Benz - 2.8%. This expands the choice beyond the typical Toyota, Honda, and Nissan.
Almost all imported cars (99.5%) are equipped with right-hand drive, which corresponds to Japanese standards. Such imports emphasize the preference of Russians for reliable and proven models, despite their age.
