The proposal for a gradual replacement of cars with right-hand drive seems logical in line with the state policy to harmonize the transport environment and improve road safety. This was stated by the head of the commercial transport dealer network, Alexey Ivanov.
According to him, this process may take about 10 years. Ivanov noted that a complete replacement is still out of the question - in some Siberian regions, right-hand drive cars make up a significant proportion of the fleet.
In Russian conditions, where the entire road infrastructure - from markings and traffic lights to road signs and interchanges - is oriented towards left-hand drive cars, abandoning the right-hand drive segment can reduce accident risks and make traffic more predictable.
Ivanov believes that a one-time ban will cause socio-economic difficulties. Therefore, a gradual scenario seems the most realistic, Ivanov concluded.
Earlier motoram.ru reported that the head of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Andrey Kutepov, sent a letter to Denis Manturov with a proposal to introduce support measures for those wishing to switch from right-hand drive cars to "left-handers".
