Ford Files for New Trademarks in Russia

The company is registering logos and the Motorcraft brand after leaving the market

American auto giant Ford has reappeared in the Russian legal field. The company has filed three applications for trademark registration in Russia, according to data from the Rospatent electronic database.

The applications were submitted in January 2026. The applicant is Ford Motor Company. It concerns the registration of the Ford logo, the Motorcraft brand, as well as the image of a galloping horse, which is traditionally used in the line of auto components and accessories.

If the applications are approved, the company will be able to sell vehicles, auto parts, motor oils and lubricants under the registered trademarks in Russia. Formally, registration does not mean the resumption of sales, but it allows you to maintain legal protection of the brand and prepare the ground for commercial activities.

Ford stopped producing cars in Russia back in 2019. Later, in October 2022, Ford Motor Company sold its 49% stake in the Sollers Ford LLC joint venture to the Russian Sollers Group.

After the deal, Sollers gained 100% control over the car assembly and engine plants in Yelabuga, as well as over the automobile enterprise in Naberezhnye Chelny. At the same time, Ford retained the right to buy back the assets for a period of up to five years, which initially indicated the possibility of the company returning if conditions changed.
