BMW will remove the Level 3 autonomous driving system from the flagship BMW 7 Series sedan. Instead of the Personal Pilot L3 complex, buyers will be offered a simpler and more affordable Level 2 autopilot.

The main reason for the abandonment was the high cost of Level 3. In the current generation of the "seven", the option cost about 7 thousand dollars, which is about 535 thousand rubles. The system required the installation of expensive lidar sensors, powerful computing modules, and complex certification in each sales region.

The new Level 2 complex will debut on the updated sedan. Its cost will be about 1.5 thousand dollars, or about 115 thousand rubles. At the same time, a number of driver assistance functions will be retained. On the highway, you can take your hands off the steering wheel, the car will be able to independently change lanes and move in city traffic jams according to navigation data.
