Subaru Wilderness to become a hybrid for the first time

The premiere will take place on April 1 at the New York Auto Show

Subaru has announced the premiere of a hybrid version of the Wilderness, which will take place at the New York Auto Show. This will be the first model in the line with a hybrid power plant, with the most likely basis being the Subaru Forester Hybrid — one of the brand's key models.

The crossover is expected to receive a power plant based on a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, a lithium-ion battery, and two electric motors integrated into the variator. The total power will be about 194 hp.

Fuel consumption for the hybrid version is estimated at 35 miles per gallon in the combined cycle. This makes the model more efficient compared to traditional versions.

The Wilderness off-road version will retain its characteristic features. These include increased ground clearance up to 236 mm, protective plates, off-road tires, and 17-inch wheels.

Changes in design are also expected: a new radiator grille, special fog lights, and decorative elements. The interior will feature StarTex seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and an 11.6-inch multimedia system screen.

Earlier, motoram.ru reported on a new version of the Subaru BRZ.
