Popular Budget EV from BYD Gets an Update

The 2026 Seagull is unveiled with an increased range of up to 505 km and LiDAR system

BYD unveiled the updated BYD Seagull at the Beijing Auto Show with an increased range and LiDAR support. The main changes are an increase in autonomy from 405 to 505 km according to the CLTC cycle and the appearance of a version with LiDAR. This modification will receive the God's Eye B driver assistance system.

The electric motor's power has been increased to 60 kW. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed the full list of specifications, but has confirmed the powertrain update.

External changes include a new red body color, 16-inch wheels, roof-mounted LiDAR, and additional cameras. A rear light element and dual windshield wipers have also been added.

The interior has retained its architecture but has received refinements. Buttons on the steering wheel have been simplified, 50W wireless charging with cooling has been added, and the center console has been changed.

At its peak, the model achieved sales of over 34 thousand units per month, but then the figures declined. The main competitor remains Geely Xingyuan, which led the market for new electric vehicles in China.
