Italian Kimera Automobili unveiled the K-39 – an extreme hypercar inspired by the legendary Lancia 037 rally car. But the main thing here is not the retro design. Under the body hides a 1000-hp V8 developed in collaboration with Koenigsegg. The premiere took place at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy.
Unlike previous Kimera projects, the K-39 is not a restomod or a modernized old car. It is a completely new car with a carbon chassis, modern aerodynamics, and its own platform. Outwardly, the hypercar resembles the Lancia 037 and Group 5 cars of the 1980s, but technically, this is already Koenigsegg territory.
The 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 1000 hp at 7350 rpm and can rev up to 8250 rpm. Interestingly, Kimera does not just use a ready-made Koenigsegg engine: the Swedish company participates in certification, engine tuning, and even provides access to its cloud diagnostic system and OTA updates.
A track version for the Pikes Peak race was also shown separately. It has a giant rear wing, developed aerodynamic body kit, and Martini Racing livery. Kimera plans to release only ten such cars for selected clients.
Against the backdrop of total electrification, the project looks almost like a provocation. While large brands are switching to hybrids and batteries, small companies are betting on ultra-emotional ICE cars with aviation aerodynamics and insane power.
