The Russian electric vehicle market continues to grow gradually. In August, their share rose to 2% for the first time, and together with plug-in and conventional hybrids, electrified powertrain vehicles already accounted for more than 11% of the market.

According to weekly sales statistics for August, the share of all-electric vehicles in the Russian market reached 2% for the first time. While this is still a small figure, electric vehicles accounted for a significantly smaller share of the market not long ago.
Meanwhile, plug-in hybrids – PHEV and EREV vehicles – maintained a share of about 5% in August. If conventional hybrids, including mild hybrid systems, are added to them, the total share of electrified powertrain vehicles exceeded 11%.
In the all-electric model segment, the Russian brand Evolute regained leadership in August. It accounted for more than a quarter of all EV sales. The main contribution came from deliveries of previously ordered I-Joy crossovers, which began to be actively shipped to customers.
Meanwhile, another player is becoming increasingly noticeable – Changan Qiyuan Q05. This electric crossover is not officially represented in Russia and enters the market through an alternative import scheme.

Over 500 Q05s were sold in the last four weeks. For a model without official deliveries, this is a very significant result. The main advantage of the crossover was its price: the absence of a Russian recycling fee for this particular supply scheme allows the cost to be kept at an attractive level.
The Russian electric vehicle market is growing through several channels at once. Official brands are gradually increasing deliveries, and at the same time, buyers are increasingly paying attention to Chinese models brought in by independent importers.
However, 2% is not yet the beginning of mass electrification, but rather another small milestone. The main Russian car market is still dominated by ICE vehicles, and a significant part of the growth of alternative powertrains is provided by hybrids.
But the trend is becoming more and more noticeable: if we consider not only pure electric vehicles but also various types of hybrids, more than one in ten new cars already has an electric component in its powertrain.
