Kai Laugner, chief designer of BMW's i division, joined the Xiaomi automotive division's research center team in Munich on August 1. On his LinkedIn page, the designer confirmed his move, thanked his former colleagues, and noted that he considers Xiaomi "one of the most progressive and fastest-growing technology companies in the world."
Kai Laugner worked at BMW for over 20 years, and under his leadership as a designer, the Bavarian plant produced such iconic models as the i3 and i8. Previously, Xiaomi had already poached other specialists from BMW, such as Rudolf Dittrich, head of the Munich office, who previously worked as a manager for the Bavarians for more than 15 years, as well as Yannis Hellwig, who remained in the same position after moving to the new company - "head of high-performance projects."
