The automotive industry is undergoing significant changes: by the end of 2025, around 30 models will be discontinued, including sports and premium variants. Among them are the legendary Nissan GT-R, produced since 2007, Ferrari Roma, Maserati MC20, and Bugatti Bolide with an 8-liter W16 engine. In the premium segment, Audi A4 and A5, as well as Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio, are leaving. American brands are losing Chevrolet Malibu, Acura TLX, Infiniti QX50, and QX55. Swedish Volvo is ceasing production of S60, V60, and S90, focusing on the electric ES90 and crossovers. Lexus is discontinuing the RC coupe and LC hybrid, Genesis - the electric G80, and Morgan - the Plus Six.
The reasons for such decisions include a decrease in demand for sedans and coupes in favor of crossovers and SUVs, stricter environmental standards with the transition to electric vehicles, as well as economic optimization, when brands abandon unprofitable lines.
Comparing with 2015, in the USA, Ford offered Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, and Taurus in addition to pickups, and now only Mustang remains. In Europe, sedans are giving way to electric crossovers. Some models may return: Acura TLX as an electric SUV, Alfa Romeo Giulia on the STLA platform. Others, like Bugatti Bolide or Maserati MC20, will turn into collectible items with a growing price.
