Lada XRay owner with the nickname konndo showed how to install an electric parking brake without service and dealers, using improvised parts and a minimum of tools. Although no Lada model is yet equipped with an electric handbrake, the owner assembled a complete system with his own hands.
The basis of the project was an electric drive with a capacity of 500 N with a stroke of 50 mm and a controller with reverse. To increase traction, a chain from the Niva and a timing gear with a radius of 45 mm were used. The mechanism is mounted on a 4×40 mm metal frame, and the stroke is reduced to 13 mm. The lever is returned by a torsion spring from the hood.
The controller controls the drive via two lines, and microswitches turn off the power when extreme positions are reached. The finished mechanism replaced the standard handbrake and operates in a "one-touch" mode: the cable is fully tensioned in 1.5 seconds. For a neat appearance, the author installed a floor tunnel from Renault Laguna.
