Toyota has officially unveiled the ninth generation of its iconic Hilux pickup. The world premiere took place in Bangkok, and it was there that the electric modification of the model was shown for the first time. Despite a major update to the exterior and interior, the car has retained the familiar character of the Hilux - reliable, utilitarian and focused on difficult operating conditions.
New look: geometry and aggression
Externally, the Hilux has been radically transformed: the designers have completely revised the proportions and shaping, focusing on the current Toyota corporate style. The front end has become more aggressive - narrow LED headlights with high brightness, a relief bumper and triangular inserts, which integrate fog lights, form a massive, almost brutal image. The central overlay is made of aluminum, enhancing the feeling of strength.
The profile of the car is emphasized by new directional wheels and geometrically designed arches. The door handles have retained their classic design - a comfortable mechanical grip remains a priority.
At the rear is the signature large Toyota inscription on the tailgate and voluminous stampings that continue the chopped aesthetics. The bumper remained power and equipped with a practical footrest.
Interior: following the external philosophy
The interior has also been completely redesigned and reflects the exterior: large, square shapes dominate. The front panel is made in a two-tier style, and the focus is on two 12.3-inch displays - one acts as an instrument panel, the second is responsible for multimedia functionality.
In contrast to modern trends, Toyota has retained many physical keys and a mechanical transmission selector - a decision in favor of reliability and convenience in difficult conditions.
Technique and dimensions
So far, the ninth generation Hilux is presented exclusively in a double cab version.
Overall dimensions remained almost the same: length - 5320 mm, width - 1855 mm, height - 1800 mm, wheelbase - 3085 mm
Almost unchanged parameters indicate the use of the same platform on which the previous generation Hilux was built.
The main focus of the presentation is the electric power plant: two electric motors - one on each axle, total power - 196 hp, battery - lithium-ion at 59.2 kWh, estimated mileage - about 300 km (official data will be later).
The electric car is just the beginning of the expansion of the power line. A diesel version is expected as early as next year. According to preliminary information, we are talking about a familiar 2.8-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of about 200 hp, depending on the modification. It will be complemented by an automatic transmission and different drive schemes.
Toyota also confirmed: by 2028, the range will be replenished with a hydrogen version (FCEV), which is still under development - there are no details about this modification yet.
Sales start
Delivery of the electric Hilux to European dealerships will begin in December 2025. Other versions will appear to customers in 2026. For Asian countries, the timing is similar: the model is scheduled to enter the market in 2026.
