Kia Initiates Large-Scale Recall of K5

Popular sedans found to have a risk of fuel leakage due to a defective valve

Kia has announced a major service campaign affecting popular K5 sedans manufactured from March 2020 to January 2024. In the United States, 250,547 vehicles equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine are subject to the recall. The reason is a possible malfunction of the fuel vapor recovery system check valve, manufactured by the Korean company Inzi Controls.

According to the manufacturer, the defective valve can not only cause errors on the dashboard but also lead to damage to the fuel tank. Owners have complained about frequent activation of the "Check Engine" light and a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin or around the vehicle. There are already twenty confirmed cases of fuel leakage associated with this problem.

As part of the campaign, owners will be offered a free inspection at the dealer. Specialists will inspect the tank for damage, replace the defective valve with an updated version, and install new software for the engine control unit. The manufacturer emphasizes that timely обращения will avoid possible risks and restore the system to normal operation.
