Renault and their futuristic vision: a review of the brand's most unusual concepts

We have collected key experimental models — from luxury robotic cars to urban electric capsules that set the course for future mobility

Renault has been surprising the automotive world with bold ideas for many years, and even now the company continues to experiment, betting on the future. It is enough to look at the key models that determine the success of the Renaulution strategy. But it is even more interesting to look further — into the gallery of concepts demonstrating how Renault envisions the future of the automotive industry.

Renault EZ-ULTIMO

Renault EZ-ULTIMO is an autonomous electric vehicle without a driver, essentially a premium-level robotic capsule. Its shape and proportions are not only unusual, but also luxurious: an elongated body, huge wheels, and an interior that looks more like a lounge area than a car interior.

The company emphasizes that EZ-ULTIMO is not just transport, but a high-class service where the passenger receives individual comfort comparable to service in an expensive hotel. The concept's appearance is made in a futuristic style, and its movement is fully electric.

Renault Racoon

Renault Racoon looks like it came from the pages of science fiction. Compact body, unusual windows, large wheels — all this gives it the look of an alien SUV. The concept debuted in the early 1990s, and it was positioned as an amphibian.

Under the hood was a V6 with two turbines, and the interior opened completely — through a rising front section. Adjustable ground clearance, self-cleaning glass, and one of the technological elements was satellite navigation. Renault clearly dreamed of what the transport of the future should be like.

Renault Zoom

Renault Zoom is one of the most compact cars created by the brand. The two-seater electric car can literally "shrink": the rear wheels can be moved closer to the front, reducing the length for convenient parking.

The doors open upwards in a "scissor" style, and the Zoom itself consists of 90% recyclable materials. An electric motor with a power of 61.2 hp makes it an ideal transport for a dense urban environment, where environmental friendliness is important and there is little free space for parking.

Renault TWIZY Z.E.

Appearing as a concept in 2009, Twizy very quickly became a production model. Formally, it is a car, but in terms of sensations, it is closer to a protected scooter: unusual wheels, a narrow capsule and a minimalist interior.

The model's slogan is "100% electric, 100% fun, zero emissions." With a 6.1 kWh battery, Twizy is designed for short trips around the city. It doesn't try to please everyone, but it fulfills its purpose perfectly — compact and environmentally friendly urban mobility.

Renault Project 900

Project 900 is one of Renault's most daring and unusual concepts. The car was nicknamed the "car in reverse" because its front and rear parts are easy to confuse: the shape of the body deliberately breaks the usual perception.

The concept appeared in 1959 and became a reflection of the era when engineers were actively experimenting with design. The time of the Cold War gave rise to many futuristic projects, such as Lincoln Futura or Ford X2000, and Renault kept up with the trends.

Renault E-Plein Air

This small electric car is designed for leisurely summer trips. It is inspired by the retro version of the Renault 4L Plein Air and uses a power plant from Twizy. The maximum speed is about 80 km/h, the range is about 100 km.

E-Plein Air does not pretend to be a practical transport — it is a stylish toy for walks on the coast, inspired by notes of nostalgia and lightness.

Renault EZ-GO aka «Shuttle Bus»

The fully autonomous and fully electric EZ-GO was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2018. It is designed for six people and accelerates to 50 km/h, and boarding is carried out through a wide front door.

Renault focused on safety: the car is equipped with special external lighting and acoustic notification, and inside — modern interfaces for connection and interaction.
