Chinese company pony.ai, which develops robotaxis and trucks in cooperation with Toyota, has received permission to test its vehicles in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen in 24/7 mode; previously, tests were conducted from 07:00 to 23:00. The goal of the project is to improve the throughput of public transport, which operates with restrictions during night and morning hours.
According to pony.ai, the throughput of the public transport system decreases to 30% of the daytime level during night hours, and robotaxis can significantly fill this gap.
The company's fleet has already passed more than 50 million kilometers of testing, of which more than 500,000 are with fully autonomous vehicles.
