Cunning drivers stopped turning on headlights during the day

Some of them believe that driving with headlights on increases fuel consumption

The traffic police explained why some drivers continue to ignore the traffic rules requirement to turn on dipped headlights or daytime running lights (DRL) during the day. Inspectors note: such "savings" create risks and almost always end in a fine.

According to the department, many drivers believe that constant operation of the headlights accelerates wear and tear on the optics. This is only partially true for old halogen lamps. LED headlights last longer, heat up less and are much more resistant to vibrations. Nevertheless, it is the fear of "burning out the lamps" that makes some switch to fog lights - which directly violates traffic rules.

Others are sure that driving with dipped headlights increases fuel consumption. The traffic police emphasize that the difference is minimal and practically unnoticeable for modern cars. Another mistake is trying to limit yourself to dimensions. But they are almost invisible on the highway, in the shade or in the rain, which increases the risk of accidents.

DRLs are only allowed during the day, as they do not illuminate the road. At dusk or in poor visibility, dipped headlights must be switched on. The fine for driving without headlights is 500 rubles, and inspectors are increasingly less likely to issue a warning.
