The promoting company ANO "Rosgonki", headed by Alexey Titov, has filed a claim for 50 million pounds against Formula One World Championship Limited, and the case has been transferred to the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice of Great Britain. The essence of the claim is the cancellation of the "Formula 1" championship races in Russia after the start of the military conflict.
It is assumed that Russia paid 50 million pounds to be included in the regular championship in 2022. The Russian Grand Prix was regularly held at the Sochi Autodrome from 2014 to 2021, and from 2023 it was supposed to move to the Leningrad Region at "Igora-Drive". However, in 2022, Stefano Domenicali, the head of F1, stated that "There will be no more races in Russia."
Titov, in turn, called Domenicali's position "politicized":
The current situation in world sports is extremely politicized. With an amendment to this, it is necessary to perceive Domenicali's words. What he said has a pronounced political subtext that has nothing to do with the real sporting spirit. The future of our relationship today is really unclear. We will take into account Domenicali's position in further work.
According to Titov, initially "Formula 1" was not against returning the debt, but did not have such an opportunity due to Western sanctions. Now, ANO "Rosgonki" demands a refund in full with interest for breach of contract. Full details of the claim have not yet been published.
