Russian Authorities Assess Mazda's Desire to Return to Vladivostok

Japanese Brand Did Not Offer an Option to Buy Out Stake in Joint Venture with Sollers

Mazda has not come forward with a proposal to exercise an option to buy out a stake in the former joint venture with Sollers in Vladivostok, and is unlikely to do so, although the option is already expiring. This was announced by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.

According to him, the Russian authorities do not see the need for Mazda's participation in production, since Sollers has retained the plant's team and relaunched the Far Eastern enterprise, where it produces buses.

It is important that Sollers also retained the plant's team and fully fulfills all social obligations to the workforce.

The relaunch of the former Mazda plant took place in September 2023. Initially, the company began producing rebranded Chinese JAC pickups. Later, two models were put on the assembly line — the Sollers SA6 intercity bus and the flagship Sollers SA9 tourist bus.

After Mazda's departure from the Russian market, Sollers acquired the concern's stake in the Far Eastern enterprise; the transaction amount was €1.
